Almost 75 percent of all new carpet purchases are to replace existing carpet. Which means that for every square yard of carpet installed there’s a square yard that has to be thrown out. In fact estimates indicate that between 3.5 and 4 billion pounds of carpet are discarded every year.

The growing issue of solid disposal, which is leading to ever-increasing landfill costs and regulations, has shown the flooring industry that there is a clear market advantage to making changes to its manufacturing practices to recycle carpet and to produce carpet of recycled materials.

"Green" or sustainable floor coverings that offer the benefits of recycling capability include stone, ceramic, palm, bamboo, cork and, of course, lumber, rubber and carpet.

Modular carpet tiles offer several cost-saving and waste prevention advantages. Individual carpet tiles can easily be replaced when they become stained or worn.
