Save water: dry carpet cleaning technology
RD Weis Companies was an early user of dry carpet cleaning technology. This cleaning technology addresses the environmental problems of under-cleaning commercial carpeting, and the problems of using "extraction" or hot water cleaning. Today, water shortages are one of the major worldwide resource crises we face, making water cleaning increasingly harmful and expensive.
Save the landfills: Earth Square
In 1992, Milliken Carpet Company recognized RD Weis Companies as a pioneer in carpet re-use. We promoted a carpet rejuvenation process called Earth Square, where old carpet tiles are removed, cleaned in the factory, re-patterned and processed, and put back into commercial use for many years. RD Weis was able to convince Tufts University and Harvard, and many corporations that being green was smart business as early as 15 years ago.
Save energy: The Loading Dock
In the mid 1990s, RD Weis Companies recognized that not all carpet tile could be re-used through the Milliken process, and began looking for organizations that want to reclaim old carpet tile. In 1995, RD Weis partnered with The Loading Dock in Baltimore, MD, a nonprofit organization that redistributes surplus building materials. This benefits lower-budget building and saves the energy it would take to separate the carpet.
Save money: recycle and reuse
We practice what we preach: our raw materials are shipped to us on pallets, and our supplies in boxes or plastic containers. Since the 1990s, we send these plastics to local recyclers, and have pallets picked up and re-used by pallet companies. We break down corrugated boxes and re-use them as shipping cartons. And we can help your office do the same with free hints and tips.
